Benthic Camera Sled
CFF constructed a benthic camera sled for documenting habitat type and presence and abundance of benthic organisms when towed at speeds of < 2 knots. This sled can be towed by smaller (<25 m) vessels or allowed to drift with the tide on larger vessels (>25 m). The sled is equipped with LED strobes and a forward-mounted camera. It can be outfitted with additional downward facing cameras to get a more direct view of the seafloor. CFF has used the benthic sled to document changes in benthic habitat before and after fishing with scallop and clam dredges.
